I heart Prince Charming. No wait, that’s not right. I mean I’m fond of the fellow, all tall, dark and cartoon-y, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say I heart him. What I meant to say is that I love charming prints. Yes, that’s more like it. There are so many whimsical prints to be found in spring 2015 fashion. If you love pattern, this is your season.
Floral prints will be making an appearance in spring 2015 fashion trends in the most eclectic of bouquets. You’ll see the teeniest of florets (the micro floral) to the boldest of tropical fauna, rosette patterned lace, to Monet’s dreamy impressionist blooms found in Lauren Conrad’s Disney inspired Cinderella collection – ahhh, the Prince Charming connection. This is where I went wrong – shown on float-y, delicate fabrics like tulle and organza. The floral print fashion trend for 2015 will be offered in 50 shades of brilliance, from the brightest and boldest of hues, to the softest of pastels, candy crush and sorbet shades. They will be seen on pencil skirts, blazers, sweatshirts, purses, footware and more. If you love the romantic, feminine look, you will love what’s in store for spring 2015.
If flowers aren’t your thing and prefer something with a little more edge, you won’t be left out because there is a whole range of abstract themed prints, playful illustrations, graffiti and scribble art motifs to be found in this season’s key trend. This is a bolder look, but equally as beautiful, and gives the rock ‘n rollers something that they will love. There is so much optical interest to these whacky motifs that you don’t really know where to look. You may find yourself looking everywhere and nowhere, but something about all these blurred lines will make you fall in love – not Prince Charming kind of love, but something a little more raw.
If your preference is for sophistication, why not try houndstooth. While this is a pattern we often think of for the colder months, this time around they have done a lighter, spring interpretation. It is always elegant and business appropriate and feels like a lower level risk for those that are less comfortable with pattern, but still want to give it a try. You’ll find it in skirts, pants, blazers, tops, trench coats and more. May I recommend wearing it with a statement t-shirt or try mixing it with the floral look for those that like to dabble in fashion or live on the edge. The combination of the more masculine looking houndstooth with the girlier floral can be a gorgeous combination, especially when pairing the finer houndstooth and grounding it with a larger, colourful floral pattern.
Novelty prints will continue into spring 2015 fashion, with lips, fruit, emojis and animé. If you are a fan of fashionanimation, this trend is hanging on a little longer. I find it very tongue in cheek.
Print goes perfectly with the 70s style that is so on trend for 2015, in particular the micro floral which is very bohemian. They are optical, playful and full of visual interest, and if you pair it with some of the 70s look, you will be spot on. And for those that are less of a fan, good news because there is always the more minimalist denim or utilitarian trend.
