My apologies Fashion Fixers that I’m late to the party, but the reason is that I was busy celebrating my own birthday this past weekend. I won’t reveal my age, even though Vogue online told me recently that we need to let all our age worries go to the wayside. I believe the article may have been situated beside a digital ad for an anti-aging treatment to revitalize my skin and rejuvenate my look.
But I’m back in action and dare I profess that there are only 6 shopping weekends left until ye old holiday. No sooner were the pumpkin candles snuffed out did the Christmas ads appear in full force, the feel good holiday flicks are in theatres Friday, and the December magazine holiday issues have hit the shelves. Fair warning, fair enough, Fair Isle. Now what to buy, what to buy before there is narry an item left? Last week we were mad for plaid, but that is so last week. May I suggest a non-tacky Christmas sweater done in the Fair Isle print to land under the tree? Honestly, what says hello holidays more than a lovely lopi?
Fair Isle is hotter than Christmas in July. Take a look around because you will find the print in everything fashion. Want a sweater? Well the options are endless. Are cozy PJs more your thing? Good news because the print has made its way to the bedroom. Is the athleisure trend your preferred style? Try a pair of cute Fair Isle print leggings with an extra, extra oversize sweater. You’ll also find it in blanket capes, capelets, ponchos, wraps, sweater dresses, tights, hats, scarves and mittens.
Personally, I like Fair Isle best when it’s done in bright colour combinations like hues of pinks or red and white, but it’s just as pretty in navy and red, black and white, baby blues or beige and ivory. Whatever your preference, you should have no issues finding a version of.
How to wear Fair Isle?
The world is your oyster when it comes to Fair Isle. I want you to reuse many of the items that I’ve encouraged you to purchase over the past year and shop your closet, if you will.
Jeans are the holy grail and probably the standard go-to when it comes to pairing Fair Isle. It is a guaranteed winning look. Pair it with skinnies or bootcut jeans, booties and your favourite statement handbag.
Elevate the look by pairing it with a felt skirt and tights.
Mix your prints by taking a bold Fair Isle sweater and pairing it with a subtler micro-dot skirt, an English country tweed blazer or trousers or a bold glen check. The trick is harmonizing the colour palette.
Androgynous dressing – pair a Fair Isle sweater over of a classic oxford shirt and add a neck tie.
Girly girls will love Fair Isle with a pretty bow neck blouse.
Fringe factor – wonder what to pair with your fringe skirt? A Fair Isle sweater can look pretty terrific mixed with the bohemian style.
Tulle – I hope you didn’t put your tulle away after going as Black Swan for Halloween. Pair a Fair Isle sweater with a gorgeous, full tulle skirt.
Chambray – I won’t let this one go without a fight. I love a chambray shirt with just about anything so why not Fair Isle.
Statement necklace – try an oversized glittery statement necklace over a Fair Isle sweater.
Blazer – throw on a great blazer over your Fair Isle Sweater.
Texture and fabric – Fair Isle works best with rich fabrics and textures like felt, suede and leather, but it can also work really nice contrasted against a very delicate floaty skirt. Anchor the look with a tight and a bold shoe.
Get up and go and hit the malls. Pick yourself up something in the pattern and why not something for some of your favourite friends to put under their tree.
