First you need to start a quilting bee. Gather as many neighbours and friends interested in joining your circle. Those with squares of interesting fabric, crafty qualities or handy with a needle should be picked first. It takes a village to make a quilt. It really does, which is why I offer you an alternative. Go to the mall and pick up one of this season’s standout quilted clothing pieces. That little touch of quilted texture added to your wardrobe is so completely on trend for fall 2014.
Quilted sweatshirts, leather skirts, dresses, shorts, pants, tops with quilted detail on the epaulettes, suede loafers, high top shoes, handbags and baseball jackets and are just some examples of the many quilted clothing items you will find in the stores and want to incorporate into your look. It’s classy and elegant with textures abound. It makes us think of Chanel, but many other designers have dabbled in it this season too, including Miu Miu, Moschino, Dior, J.Crew and Banana Republic. I like it paired with opposites like a sheer blouse, or try a quilted varsity jacket or sweatshirt and pair it with skinny moto jeans in a washed out black denim. The juxtaposition of the luxurious look of the quilt paired with the edgier denim – mouah! Perfection! To be really on trend, try it with tone on tone.
