H&M is consciously coupling with fashion and humanitarian ambassador Olivia Wilde on the latest Conscious Exclusive Collection for spring 2015. On April 16, the fashion and retail giant made the sustainably stylish collection available to the public. Many of the pieces sold out within hours of the store opening.
The showstoppers include the hand printed fabric with wild birds motif, silk dress with side pockets and tulle, the abstract print, floor length, silk-mix skirt (the clear front runner to the line), the ivory kimono dress with side slit and contrasting obi belt, the Mulberry silk tuxedo jacket, no wait it’s a cape, no it is indeed a jacket, with sleeves slit all the way to the elbows, the one shoulder, red pleated dress, the vegan leather mules, and the black beaded cocktail gown made from recycled materials. Olivia Wilde could not have looked more gorgeous in the pieces, no?
Inspiration for the collection comes from around the globe, with an emphasis on African, Asian and Indian culture. The intent behind the line is to combine style with awareness in the most fashion forward way imaginable. Nobody does it quite like H&M, and at a price point that simply cannot be beat. The fabrics and materials used to manufacture the collection are ethically sourced products, including organic cotton, linen and hemp, Tencel, Mulberry silk and recycled materials.
Will the success of the line pave the way for other fashion retailers and become the new corporate mainstay? I do hope so. H&M, you and Olivia make a darling eco-couple. Looking forward to future Conscious Exclusive Collections and what magic can be made when you do a good thing by combining fair trade and the environment with the beauty of fashion. Thank you for starting the conversation. Shall we continue it?
